24-27 November - Cobberas, Cowombat and the Source of the Murray

Overnight Backpacking
Walk Coordinator: Robert Lewin
Meet: We would meet at Native Dog Flat campsite (on the Wulgulmerang-Benambra road) after midday.
Grade: Moderate/Hard
Distance: 35 km
Description: DATES OPEN TO DISCUSSION
Let Robert (02 6493 4427) know of interest.
Area: Victoria
Terrain: road, forest, scrub,open country.
Day 1 Drive to The Playground, climb Cobberas 1 and camp.
Day 2 Moscow Peak, Cobberas 2, Cowombat Flat and camp.
Day 3 (day walk) Source of the Murray, The Pilot and return to camp.
Day 4 Return to The Playground and drive home.

There seems that the consensus dates for this walk lie after the Xmas BBQ.
I suggest Tue 24 Nov for the start date. Further discussion is welcome.
Looking at the map I can see that there are four bridges available forthe crossing of the Snowy River. Jindabyne, Dalgety, McKillops andOrbost. Maybe the Orbost route is easiest. The McKillops route is themost scenic.
We will possibly(?) need to carry water for the first 24 hours. Thebush water available may be of poor quality for this first section.

25 October - Mumbulla Creek

Day event
Walk Coordinator: Ian Burns
Meet: 9:00 AM at Corner of Clarke's Road and Mumbulla Trig Road. If you don't know how to get there phone Ian on 64940247
Grade: Hard
Distance: 8 km
Description: Walk is not on any tracks, all bush bashing, steep going down, steep coming up. Will be in a different part of Mumbulla Creek this year. Mumbulla Creek is another world: cool, dark and damp. Walk duration around 6 hours

Just in from Ian:
We're still meeting at the bottom of the road that leads up to the top of Mumbulla Mountain at 9am. The only way to get there is via Doctor George Mountain Road then turn up Mumbulla Creek Road, continue past the Mumbulla Falls turnoff and it's about 10min drive beyond that, I will be there in my white ute.. It took me about 30 minutes to get there from Tanja last weekend. There is the odd tick and leach on the walk, I forgot my repellent! I suggest you spray your clothes beforehand and wear long pants and long sleeves due to all the bush bashing. I'm taking gloves also.
